Tracy mentioned the idea of a group trip to Cape Breton to do the Cabot trail, something she’s done several times in the past. My first thought, “been there, done that“, however I decided to join the first video call to find out how this was going to go and whether there was enough interest.
Then Penny and I signed up for the training – this is where it all changed for me:
What a great group!

Our first gathering was in Tracy’s garage with a great presentation by Rick on bike safety and maintenance (more importantly, coffee and cinnamon buns). This would be followed by our first group training ride.
Hills, rinse, repeat
Over the course of Pink Lake repeats, loops and climbs to Champlain Lookout the group gelled and I started to realize they were growing on me. This was cemented on our ride to Foymount (photo above).
I think you really get to know people at the pub after a difficult hilly ride or the restaurant in Merrickville–everyone’s in great spirits regardless of the weather or the climbs.
